Atoms with Bosonic “Electrons” in Strong Magnetic Fields
We study the ground state properties of an atom with nuclear charge Z and N bosonic “electrons” in the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field B. We investigate the mean field limit N →∞ with N/Z fixed, and identify three different asymptotic regions, according to B ¿ Z2, B ∼ Z2, and B À Z2. In Region 1 standard Hartree theory is applicable. Region 3 is described by a one-dimensional functiona...
متن کاملStrongly correlated ultra-cold bosonic atoms in optical lattices
A major focus in condensed matter physics is to study the origin of exotic quantum phases such as coexistent and inhomogeneous phases, quantum criticality, and secondary ordered phases close to quantum critical points. Exotic phenomena in strongly correlated systems occur due to competing complex interactions of spin, charge, lattice, and orbital degrees of freedom. Complex quantum phases in st...
متن کاملQuantum computation with cold bosonic atoms in an optical lattice.
We analyse an implementation of a quantum computer using bosonic atoms in an optical lattice. We show that, even though the number of atoms per site and the tunnelling rate between neighbouring sites is unknown, one may operate a universal set of gates by means of adiabatic passage.
متن کاملSpinor bosonic atoms in optical lattices: symmetry breaking and fractionalization.
We study superfluid and Mott insulator phases of cold spin-1 Bose atoms with antiferromagnetic interactions in an optical lattice, including a usual polar condensate phase, a condensate of singlet pairs, a crystal spin nematic phase, and a spin singlet crystal phase. We suggest a possibility of exotic fractionalized phases of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates and discuss them in the language of ...
متن کاملAccuracy evaluation of an optical lattice clock with bosonic atoms.
We report what we believe to be the first accuracy evaluation of an optical lattice clock based on the S01-->P03 transition of an alkaline earth boson, namely, Sr88 atoms. This transition has been enabled by using a static coupling magnetic field. The clock frequency is determined to be 429228066418009(32)Hz. The isotopic shift between Sr87 and Sr88 is 62188135Hz with fractional uncertainty 5x1...
